Bivane/Paris Dam, situated in the North of Kwa-Zulu Natal is a 72m high Double Curvature Concrete Arch Dam with a 142m crest length.

The Dam capacity is 115 million m³ 22.4 million m³ with an active water storage volume of 19.2-million m³.

Paris/Bivane Dam Instrumentation consists of the following:
  • Vibrating Wire Piezometers in the foundation as well as in the main structure measuring pore pressure.
  • Thermistors measuring temperature.
  • Normal and Inverted pendulum tables.

Instruments installed in and around the Dam Embankment are intended to monitor:
  • Pore pressure build-up around the Conduit and Main Embankment;
  • Structural temperature;
  • Tilt of structure.
